Main purpose of the job

The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is responsible for leading the Group's Human Capital function, ensuring alignment between people, culture, and business strategy. As a member of the executive team, the CHRO will position HR as a strategic enabler of organisational performance, transformation, and sustainable growth.

The role will drive a modern, agile, and technology-enabled HR function while fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and values-driven culture across MT Group.

Main Duties

HR Transformation & Digital Innovation
  • Lead end-to-end transformation of the HR operating model - moving from transactional processes to a data-driven, AI-augmented HR function aligned with MT's digital strategy.
  • Leverage on the HRIS/HCM platform to derive people analytics to provide the Board and Executive Committee with evidence-based workforce intelligence and predictive insights.
  • Identify automation opportunities across the employee lifecycle (recruitment, onboarding, performance, offboarding) and implement responsible AI tools that enhance - not replace - human judgment.
  • Champion the Future of Work agenda while establishing a robust HR governance framework.

    Strategic Talent Management & Workforce Planning
  • Develop and execute a Group-wide talent strategy encompassing workforce planning, critical-role identification, talent acquisition, succession pipelines, and retention.
  • Build a best-in-class employer brand that positions Mauritius Telecom as the employer of choice for digital, technology, and business talent.
  • Design and lead rigorous succession planning programmes for the Senior Leadership Team and Tier-2 roles, ensuring pipeline depth for mission-critical positions.
  • Oversee a modern performance management architecture - outcome-oriented, continuous feedback-driven, and linked to meaningful learning and career development opportunities.
  • Establish a Learning & Development Centre of Excellence that delivers technical upskilling alongside leadership capability building.

    Industrial Relations & Trade Union Engagement
  • Serve as the Group's principal lead for all trade union relations - fostering a collaborative, transparent, and legally compliant partnership with all recognised unions.
  • Lead complex collective bargaining negotiations with skill, pragmatism, and respect for workers' rights, securing agreements that balance employee welfare and business sustainability.
  • Develop proactive IR strategies that pre-empt conflict, address grievances swiftly, and build mutual trust between management and employee representatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date expertise in Mauritian employment legislation, the Employment Rights Act, and evolving case law, advising the Board on legal risk and compliance.

    Organisational Effectiveness & Culture
  • Partner with the CEO and Executive Committee to design agile organisational structures that enable MT's strategic pivots and reduce hierarchy where appropriate.
  • Lead cultural transformation initiatives that embed innovation, accountability, continuous learning, and customer-centricity as core organisational values.
  • Champion psychological safety and employee well-being programmes.
  • Oversee change management frameworks for major organisational transitions ensuring people-centred communication and support.

    Total Rewards & HR Operations
  • Design and govern a competitive, equitable, and transparent total rewards framework - encompassing compensation benchmarking, benefits, pensions, and non-monetary recognition.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy, HR compliance, and operational excellence across all entities of the MT Group.
  • Oversee health, safety, and well-being programmes in alignment with MT's duty-of-care obligations and ESG commitments.

    Executive Leadership & Board Engagement
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the CEO and Executive Committee on all people-related matters.
  • Present the people strategy, talent risk register, and HR transformation roadmap to the Board of Directors and shareholders.
  • Build, coach, and develop the HR Leadership Team into a high-performing function with clear accountability, deep expertise, and a service-excellence mindset.
  • Desired Qualification and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or related field
    • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience at Senior Management Level in a corporate sector
    • Sound knowledge of the prevailing Employment Legislations, Pension Law, and Tax regulations
    • Demonstrated track record of leading large-scale HR transformation programmes
    • Proven experience in collective bargaining and trade union negotiations
    • A master's degree in human resource management or Specialization in Human Resource Strategy will be an advantage.

    Competences and people skills

    • Strong executive presence with exceptional stakeholder management
    • Proven ability to build, coach, and lead high-performing teams and develop future leaders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
    • Demonstrated track record in leading HR transformation and driving enterprise-wide change management initiatives.
    • Extensive experience in shaping and leading business-oriented People & Culture functions, including the design of scalable processes, systems, and operating models.
    • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data and insights into strategic decisions and business outcomes.
